Build a Neuron Challenge

This action-packed STEM activity pack introduces students to the wonderful world of neurons- the cells that make up their brains. It challenges them to build their own neuron rube goldberg machine, guiding them through the engineering design process as they imagine, plan, create, test and improve their machines. Then, the whole class connects up their neurons into a giant brain-like network!

This lesson plan makes a perfect science week activity, or a fun end of term challenge. And we'd love to see your machines- so do send us a photo by email or tag @BraintasticSci on social media.

Did you know that spending time in nature is good for your health? This fact sheet gives young people a glimpse into just one of the reasons it's vital to protect our natural environment- because our mental wellbeing depends on it.

We have designed this fact sheet to encourage students to ask their own questions about nature and wellbeing- why not support your students to come up with an experiement on the topic they can carry out in class or at home?

Nature and Wellbeing

Spending time outdoors can: reduce stress; restore your energy; improve your immune system; increase your self-esteem; make you happier; help your brain to develop; improve your working memory; make it easier to pay attention in school; make you feel calm and relaxed; give you a sense of purpose in life; help you be kinder and more generous to others; increase the chance of making choices that will help the environment; and create a sense of awe and wonder. Pretty amazing right?!
